Managing your Webmail’s Spam Filter

If you’re one of the hundreds of lucky individuals to use iMarc’s webmail services, there is a simple, built-in method for helping control spam.

Step 1: Logging In

the login page: prompting the user for username and password

To access your webmail direct your browser to ‘webmail.YourDomain.com’ (where YourDomain.com is the domain name of your email. For example, If your email address is manny@redsox.com, you would go to webmail.redsox.com).

Your login will be the first part of your email address, before the ‘@’ (ie. manny@redsox.com’s login would be ‘manny’).

If you can’t remember your password contact us, and we can reset it for you.

Step 2: Accessing Your Spam Tools

the options page: the E-mail Filters link is in the middle of the page

Once logged in, you’ll see a set of tabs running along the top of the screen, one of which is labeled ‘options’. Go ahead and click on that guy.

…and then on the ‘E-mail Filters’ link.

Step 3: Configure Your Settings

the E-mail Filters page: an ordered list of functionality appears in the text above

Junk Mail Folder: The first option on the E-mail Filters page is your Junk Mail Folder, which is disabled by default. When the Junk Mail Folder is disabled, all emails that webmail flags as spam are sent back to their sender automatically. Enabling the Junk Folder will cause these messages to be saved in a Junk Mail Folder that webmail will create, and you can peruse at your leisure.

If you enable Junk Mail Folder, you’ll have to periodically log in to your webmail account, and delete the junk messages. If not, your mail box will fill up. If you prefer to “set it, and forget it”, leave junk mail disabled, and turn on Spam Assassin (which bounces spam messages).

Spam Assassin: This is Webmail’s automatic spam filter, which is also disabled by default. When enabled (as displayed in screenshot 3) it will automatically scan incoming messages, assigning them a score from 1-10. Emails scored a 10 have a high probability of being spam, where emails scored a 1 are probably legitimate. There is an additional, slightly more technical description available by following the (more info) link

Spam assasin will also allow you to blacklist (automatically block) emails from certain emails (ie. manny@redsox.com) or entire domains (ie. redsox.com) by clicking the ‘Manage’ button next to ‘Spam Assassin White and Black listing:’ and adding the names where applicable.

Mail Filtering: This is a tool that will allow you to flag messages as spam on a custom basis. You may flag email address, contents of the subject line, etc, by selecting a field from the drop down menu and adding the text to search for in the text box next to it. There is a detailed description of each field in the (more info) link.
