OK- So in celebration of that thought, I decided to put Photoshop to work on Lead Developer Bill Bushee's mug. Bill surprisingly volunteered himself for this age and gender transformation with no strings attached - Weird, yes, but we salute Bill for wearing the bra.
I give you Exhibit A. The photo to the right was taken with a Digital Rebel XT on my highly desirable 1MB memory card. I knew I only had one shot - so I spent 10's of hours strategically placing Bill under the right lighting. Mood was important in this shot, so I made sure Bill had his Enya playing in the background. OK moving on, we'll be using this image as the source for our editing.
Along with Bill's mugshot photo we will be using a collection of old peoples faces (Exhibit B, below) that were easily found through a simple google image search.
Ya know, I'm looking at these now, and I have no doubt in my mind someone's going to be like "Agghk, Ma Lawrd! That thar's ah nipple!". I assure you folks, the above images are a collection of noses, eyes, chins, and cheeks (the face ones).
OK, Let's get started.
STEP ONE
We'll start by toning down the colors a bit, and boosting the contrast. We want to make sure Bill's wrinkles are really defined...so this will be a good setup to work with:
STEP TWO
I've decided I dont like the green background. That being said, I decided to change it to wood. Again, keep the Google Images as your sidekick here.
STEP THREE
OK, next up...Old people's eyes tend to be a bit heavier and saggier. I selected, copied, then pasted 2 components of Bills face (right). I then took the separated eye components and nudged it down. Next, I moved the lip component UP.
STEP FOUR
BOOYAH! Ok, what's next...oh yes! The nose...I took the Mike Tyson approach and punched in the top of his nose a bit. After that I added some depth and shading to the wrinkle that meets at Bill's disgusting mouth and enormous nose (haha just kidding, Bill...glad we're paying attention).
STEP FIVE
Now let's get into componenting OTHER images onto Bill's mug. In this step, I took the chin and neck from this photo and did some color matching. Once i was pleased, I layed the old man's chin and neck over bills - erasing any areas that may conflict with eachother.
STEP SIX
Now I'm sure most of you looked at the last 3 images and figure that the difference between them are very minimal - but I assure you there's more than meets the eye, as you will see in the final image. OK let's add some hot eye wrinkles! Using the same technique, I selected out components from the eye photos and did some color matching. (NOTE: You can achieve near perfect skin tones using any pattern of Levels, Hue/Saturation, Variations and Curves together. Play around with it!).
Alright, I need a breather......
Ok, I'm good.
STEP SEVEN
Let's do some more blending! This time, some subtle texturing to the cheeks and forehead!
STEP EIGHT
Even though I could have used one of my various photos of Bill with his hair in pig tails or permed, I decided to use a photo I found of some older womans hair curlers and overlay them on Bill's head instead.
STEP NINE
I didn't like Bill's shirt - and I don't think you want this to turn into a Wet Granny's Gone Wild Tutorial, so I went for a more conservative approach. I believe I Google image searched the term "Sweater" and BAM! I found a sweater. I cut out the previous owners head and trimmed out the edges - then placed and sized the shirt over Bill's old one.
STEP TEN
Almost done, I promise! Next I chaged the hue on Bill's sweater a little bit to a pinker tone....oh and then I added a knitted cat to the front! Aw man if only that were a real shirt.
STEP ELEVEN
That's it, I'm done with you. Here's a closer look for you - Or, if you prefer, you can see a slightly larger version here.
I leave you all now with this.
Until next time,
