States Table

by Fred LeBlanc - June 18, 2007 / 11:27am View more articles

I just tried to fill in a states database table by memory.
When I thought I was done, there were 49 rows in the table.

Stupid Utah.

That's not bad, I would have guessed it would be a west coast type state you'd forget. Recently we had a trivia night out here and the question was:

"How many states have only one syllable?"

Answer: 1, Maine

But you should have heard my group trying to come up with the east coast states.

Not to be nit-picky, but according to the MSCPA database you're actually missing 7 states: Military Address, Guam, Foreign Address... among others

I've written all 50 down in ten minutes from memory with no preparation time.

TAKE THAT

...and could I do it again, you ask? I think not.

@Riz:
Like Fred said, thanks! We just updated our back end tools and a couple features got disabled along the way...

Another minor issue on directions page: http://www.imarc.net/contact/directions
Seems like all driving images are forcibly resized...they should be shown in their original dimensions, or thumbnails should be created through ImageMagick.

Have a good weekend guy!

@Riz

1. sharp eyes for noticing that.
2. i'm a HUGE advocate of resizing images in CSS - setting images to em widths, etc...

it makes design 486% easier. You can just make all your images a little bigger than normal, and use CSS to place them. if your page width is 40em, you'll never know exactly how wide it is in pixels. Maybe you want your image to take up 25% -- .class img { width: 10em; }

I realize that I'm probably alone in this...

If only someone would write a blog about resizing images with CSS...
